teacher and senior researcher

Description

PhD Geranda Slager is a physiotherapist and movement scientist, and obtained her PhD at the University of Groningen in 1998. She works as a lecturer in the Physiotherapy program at Hanze University of Applied Sciences Groningen, and as a postdoctoral researcher at the research group Healthy Ageing, Allied Health Care and Nursing in Groningen, the Netherlands. Her passion is to connect student research projects with measurements that are meaningful for professional practice. Currently, her focus is on simplifying bio-impedance measurements. Normally, these must be carried out according to a strict protocol. In her line of research, she investigates how measurement outcomes change when this protocol is not strictly followed—for example, when electrodes are placed at different locations on the hand or foot, when measurements are taken on the opposite side of the body, when the bladder is full, when large amounts of water are consumed, or when food intake is involved. These studies are conducted with participants aged 18-30 years or 60–90 years. The aim is to make BIA measurements more practical and accessible for everyday use by dietitians and physiotherapists.
