It is associated with increased risks of metabolic disorders. PCOS prevalence among adolescents ranges from 3% to 26%. The study was conducted with the aim of screening adolescent girls for symptoms of PCOS. The objective was to note effect of high protein and high fiber food on weight loss of PCOS participants.

A questionnaire was used for obtaining general information and physical activity information. Height, weight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference was recorded. Waist to hip ratio and BMI was calculated. A sub-sample of 10 participants (identified with PCOS) were selected for intervention. They were given high protein and high fibre snack foods at breakfast and evening snack time daily for 3 months. Weight was noted every 15 days to observe the changes. Appropriate statistical analysis was done.
Results: Amongst the participants, only 32% had normal weight, 14% were underweight and the rest were overweight (15%) and obese (class I-19% and class II-20%). There were 21% girls with PCOS. After the intervention, it was observed that participants who were overweight/obese had lost weight. The participants weight and BMI at end of study were significantly lower compared to the baseline. Weight (t=2.956, p=0.016) and BMI (t=2.655, p=0.026).
