REVERSING FRAILTY IN AGING: 68% SUCCESS RATE THROUGH COMPREHENSIVE NUTRITIONAL THERAPY AND MULTICOMPONENT INTERVENTION

Rationale: Frailty is a syndrome of low physiological reserve affecting 10–15% of older adults, with nutrition as a key factor.
Aim: To evaluate whether a multicomponent nutritional program improves frailty, physical function, and healthcare use in community‑dwelling older adults.
Methods: A 24‑week prospective intervention in 64 frail older adults (mean age 81.3) delivered high‑protein intake (1.5 g/kg/day), vitamin D and micronutrient optimization, energy balance assessment, resistance‑exercise coordination, individualized meal planning, and caregiver education. Outcomes included frailty status, physical performance, and healthcare utilization.
Results: Frailty improved in 68% of participants, with 42% moving from frail to pre‑frail (p<0.001). Gait speed increased by 0.12 m/s (p=0.002) and grip strength by 16% (p<0.01). 73% met protein targets and 81% achieved optimal vitamin D levels. Emergency visits dropped by 38%

Conclusion: Structured nutritional therapy significantly improved frailty outcomes and physical function in older adults. Targeted nutritional interventions addressing specific nutritional deficits should be integrated into standard frailty management protocols as a feasible, non-pharmacological strategy.
