Rationale: Describe and compare the characteristcs of patients with and without sarcopenia, to better understand its impact and support early identification for risk stratification and implementation of targeted nutritional and therapeutic interventions

Methods: Ambulatory cancer patients with disease-related malnutrition (DRM) who underwent nutritional and morphofunctional® assessment. Baseline clinical and demographic characteristics were compared in patients with and without sarcopenia, using European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2) criteria 

Results: We analize 425 patients, 23,8% of them meet sarcopenia criteria. 51,2% were women. We describe differencial caracteristics in Table 1. Patients with severe malnutrition were more likely to have sarcopenia compared to those with moderate malnutrition (OR = 1.94; 95% CI: 1.17–3.20). 

Regarding the comorbidities, only patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus had higher likelihood of sarcopenia (OR:1.84;95% CI: 1.09-3.12)

Conclusion: All evaluated parameters,  were significantly worse in patients with sarcopenia, reflecting the multifactorial impact of sarcopenia on body composition and physical performance in malnourished cancer patients. Patients with severe malnutrition according to GLIM criteria have a higher risk of developing sarcopenia than those with moderate malnutrition. In addition, T2DM appears to be a risk factor for developing sarcopenia
