Rationale: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between dietary habits and oral health status, particularly the prevalence of dental caries and periodontal disease among individuals with different nutritional patterns.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 200 participants aged 18–50 years. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing dietary intake, frequency of sugar consumption, and oral hygiene practices. Clinical oral examinations were performed to record dental caries using the DMFT index (Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth) and periodontal status using the Community Periodontal Index (CPI). Participants were categorized based on their dietary patterns into high-sugar, balanced, and nutrient-deficient groups. Statistical analysis was performed to determine the association between dietary factors and oral health outcomes.

Results: Participants with high sugar consumption had significantly higher DMFT scores compared to those with balanced diets (p < 0.05). Individuals with nutrient-deficient diets demonstrated significantly higher CPI scores and increased gingival inflammation (p < 0.05). A significant positive correlation was observed between frequent sugar intake and dental caries, while adequate nutrient intake was significantly associated with improved periodontal status (p < 0.05). However, no statistically significant association was found between gender and DMFT scores or between age groups and periodontal status (p > 0.05). Participants with balanced diets showed overall better oral health outcomes (Figure 1).

Conclusion: Dietary habits have a significant impact on oral health. High sugar intake increases the risk of dental caries, while balanced nutrition supports periodontal health and overall oral well-being. Incorporating nutritional guidance into dental care is essential for effective prevention and management of oral diseases.
