A CAPABILITY MATURITY MODEL FOR MULTIDISCIPLINARY NUTRITIONAL THERAPY TEAMS: DEVELOPMENT AND PRELIMINARY PSYCHOMETRIC VALIDATION OF A NATIONAL ASSESSMENT TOOL IN BRAZIL

Rationale: No validated tool exists to objectively stratify organizational maturity levels of Multidisciplinary Nutritional Therapy Teams (MNTs), limiting quality benchmarking and structured improvement in clinical nutrition services.
Methods: Two-phase study: (1) structured development by seven experts applying a Capability Maturity Model (CMM) framework — guideline review, process mapping, expert consensus — producing a 100-point instrument across six domains (Administrative, Clinical, Resources, Education and Training, Research and Development, Information Management) with six maturity levels (0–5); (2) cross-sectional, multicenter, national psychometric study recruiting MNT professionals from all Brazilian regions via the SBNPE portal and national congress (August–October 2025). Usability was measured by the System Usability Scale (SUS; score ≥68 = above average). Maturity scores and regional variation were reported descriptively (mean ± SD).
Results: Fifty-one professionals completed the assessment. Maturity distribution: 7.8% Initial, 29.4% Foundational, 27.5% Managed, 25.5% Advanced, 9.8% Excellence. Mean SUS 75.4 (SD 13.3; 95% CI: 71.5–79.2); 74.7% rated usability as Good to Best Possible. Operational domains (Administrative, Clinical, Resources) reached ~57% of maximum scores; Education and Training (33.7%) and Research and Development (24.5%) scored markedly lower. Regional variation: Southeast (53 ± 22.8, modal Level 3) versus Northeast (33 ± 18.4, modal Level 2).
Conclusion: The CMM instrument demonstrated satisfactory usability in a national, multiregional sample and discriminated maturity levels across Brazilian MNTs. The systematic gap between operational and educational/research domains identifies a concrete priority for targeted interventions in training and knowledge-generation capacity within nutritional therapy teams.
