USE OF ANTIOXIDANT, IMMUNOMODULATORY NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS IN PATIENTS WITH RESPIRATORY SYMPTOMS AND DISEASES

Rationale: The high cost of medications is leading scientists to increasingly investigate foods for therapeutic properties, in this case, polyphenols1. They are capable of modulating the body's oxidation, producing enzymes, vitamins, and other elements. Adequate consumption can help prevent and treat diseases2. Studies indicate that the consumption of vitamin C and zinc, plus antioxidant compounds, reduces the duration and severity of respiratory diseases1-2.

Methods: To evaluate the effectiveness of an antioxidant and immunomodulatory nutritional supplement in 10 volunteers who presented with respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough, nasal and pulmonary discharge, with a diagnosis of Pulmonary Disease.

Results: The volunteers used the supplement and obtained results showing improvement in: respiratory difficulties: 80%; cough: 90%; respiratory system: 80%; secretion: 50%; nasal: 10%; pulmonary: 10%.

Conclusion: The improvement and reduction of respiratory symptoms were effective in most patients, preventing the condition from worsening. The reduction in cough and secretion was notable, especially in smokers. Patients did not report any discomfort while using the supplement. The supplement may be indicated for patients with respiratory diseases, aiming to strengthen the immune response, reduce pulmonary oxidation, improve respiratory function, and contribute to clinical and nutritional recovery.
