THE PREDICTION OF 1 YEAR LATER SITUATION OF PATIENT’S ADL AND MENTAL DEPRESSION WITH BARTHEL INDEX(BI) AND HOSPITAL ANXSIETY AND DEPRESSION SCORE(HADS) BY THE CHANGE OF PHASE ANGLE BEFORE AND AFTER DISTAL GASTRECTOMY OPERATION FOR GASTRIC CANCER PATIENTS

Rationale: Recently, prognostic factors for patients with cancer cachexia have been reported. We hypothesized that phase angle (PhA), which is measured by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA), might be a promising marker for assessing the nutritional status and prognosis of patients with cancer. The present study aimed to evaluate the predictive utility of PhA, for the prognosis of patients with cancer operative patients.
Methods: 55 patients underwent distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer were recruited between July 2018 and December 2019 in Fujita Health University Hospital. Their mean age was 74.0 years (standard deviation, 8.5), 35 were men and 20 women. Wehave measured PhA by BIA twice before and after operation, distal gastrectomy for gastric cancer patients. After that, we have checked BI and HADs by interviews at 3 month, 6 month, and 1 year later from discharge of hospital.
Results: Barthel Index-PA change; (p-value, odds ratio), 3month(0.579, 0.812) 6month(0.0406, 0.613), 1year(0.00921,0.393) HAD scale-PA change; (p-value, odds ratio), 3month(0.462, 0.807) 6month(0.0312, 0.631), 1year(0.00718,0.395)

Conclusion: At 3 month, we have had no relationship between BI, HADs and change of PhA, however, after that, p-value and odds ratio have gotten smaller. The case which PhA after operation got down than before should be followed up carefully at 1 year later even if BI and HADs were good at 3 month later from discharge.
