Rationale: Chronic kidney disease is frequently associated with underdiagnosed malnutrition due to the limitations of conventional markers such as BMI. Integrating GLIM Criteria with functional measures like handgrip strength and inflammatory markers provides a comprehensive approach for early detection, risk stratification, and improved clinical management of CKD patients.

Methods: Cross-sectional hospital-based study conducted among CKD patients

Sample size: 112 adults selected via convenience sampling

Ethical approval obtained and written informed consent taken

Data collected: demographic, clinical, dietary, and biochemical parameters

Nutritional status assessed using GLIM Criteria

Handgrip strength measured using a digital dynamometer

Anthropometric measurements: height, weight, BMI

Biochemical parameters: hemoglobin, albumin, creatinine, CRP

Statistical analysis performed using SPSS (chi-square, correlation, regression)

Results: Malnutrition increased with CKD stage and dialysis. GLIM Criteria enabled accurate detection beyond BMI, while albumin declined with severity. CKD stage and age were key risk factors.

Conclusion: GLIM-based assessment reveals a high burden of malnutrition in CKD patients, strongly linked to inflammation and reduced handgrip strength. Functional decline is the strongest predictor, with females showing greater severity, emphasizing the need for integrated nutritional screening.
