ADHERENCE OF SWISS CHILDREN TO THE PLANETARY HEALTH DIET: A PLANNED ANALYSIS OF MENUCH-KIDS DATA

Rationale: The Planetary Health Diet (PHD) has been proposed as a dietary pattern that supports both human and environmental health. While adherence to the PHD has been evaluated in adults, evidence in children remains scarce. The Swiss menuCH-Kids survey offers a unique opportunity to assess dietary patterns in this population.

Methods: Data from the nationally representative menuCH-Kids survey will be analyzed in a secondary analysis. Food intake will be classified according to PHD components, and adherence scores calculated using established methods. Adult data from the national menuCH survey will serve as a reference for contextualizing intake patterns. 

Results: Descriptive findings from menuCH-Kids indicate high consumption of meat, snacks, and sugar-sweetened beverages, and low intake of fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Adult data show similar deviations from PHD recommendations, particularly for animal-based foods. The analysis will quantify PHD adherence in children and assess deviations across major food groups.

Conclusion: This study will provide the first assessment of adherence to the Planetary Health Diet in Swiss children using nationally representative data. The findings will inform future strategies aimed at promoting healthy and sustainable dietary patterns early in life.
