Rationale: Since disease-related malnutrition poses a significant risk for patients with hematological malignancy, it is important to assess nutritional status at the time of admission to the hospital. This study aimed to determine the possible effects of nutritional status services on treatment outcomes and length of stay in hospitalized patients with hematological malignancy
Methods: The study conducted in Istanbul as single centred, randomized controlled, and prospective. Patients included in the study were monitored as control and intervention groups for six months. Malnutrition status compared according to clinical results, body-mass index and NRS2002 score values.
Results: 73.2% of intervention group patients and 78.2% of control group patients were at nutritional risk during hospitalization, 53.1% of intervention group patients and 61.4% of control group patients were at nutritional risk during discharge. The intervention group had a hospital LoS of 8 (5-12) days and 11 (6-15) days compared to patients in the control group.
Conclusion: Patient-specific nutritional support improved quality of life outcomes, decreased LoS, and reduced the risk of malnutrition in patients with hematological malignancy who had increased nutritional risk.
