ONCO GERIATRIC SUPPORT: POSITIVE CORRELATION BETWEEN MEDICAL NUTRITION THERAPY AND OVERALL SURVIVAL

Rationale: Onco Geriatric Support is an interdisciplinary model combining nutritional intervention, psycho-social, caregiver, and mobility support that improves clinical outcomes and reduces cancer treatment-related complications in older patients.1-3

Methods: We included elderly people aged 65 years and over (n=120) in our project from April 2025 to June 2025 by individual counselling. We used a self-designed questionnaire for oncogeriatric patients including G8 and Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA), OARS comorbidity IADL, MOS social support, PROMIS anxiety and Mini-cog.2,4 Individualized dietitian-led nutrition plans, tailored oral nutritional supplements, and thickeners were used to meet nutritional needs in older cancer patients.2,3

Results: 120 oncogeriatric patients (≥65 years) showed improvements in frailty risk (G8: 12.1±2.3 to 13.6±2.1), nutritional status (MNA: 19.0±3.6 to 22.0±3.4), functional independence (IADL: 5.2±1.6 to 5.9±1.5), social support (MOS: 58±18 to 66±17), reduced anxiety (PROMIS: 60.5±8.0 to 55.0±7.5), decreased anorexia (62% to 40%) and insufficient fluid intake (41% to 23%).1-4

Conclusion: This program demonstrates that tailored nutritional intervention improved frailty risk, nutritional status, functional independence, and anxiety, while reducing anorexia and insufficient fluid intake in oncogeriatric patients.1,3,4
