ANTHROPOMETRIC MEASUREMENTS OF CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS WITH TYPE 1 DIABETES USING CONTINUOUS GLUCOSE MONITORING

Rationale: Time in Range (TIR), derived from continuous glucose monitoring, has emerged as a key indicator of glycemic control beyond HbA1c. This study aimed to evaluate the association between TIR and glycemic as well as body composition parameters in Type 1 DM children and adolescents.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 80 participants aged 5-18 years were included. Anthropometric measurements and body composition parameters were recorded. Glycemic control was evaluated using HbA1c and TIR (%). Associations between variables were analyzed using Spearman’s correlation

Results: TIR showed a strong and significant negative correlation with HbA1c (r = −0.737, p < 0.001). TIR was also negatively associated with age (r = −0.235, p = 0.036). Regarding anthropometric measurements, TIR demonstrated negative correlations with body mass index (r = −0.266, p = 0.017), body fat percentage (r = −0.222, p = 0.048) and visceral adiposity index (r = −0.310, p = 0.005).  TIR also showed positive correlation with fat free mass (r=0.021 p=0.049).

Conclusion: TIR is strongly associated with HbA1c and reflects glycemic control. Its relationship with age and body composition parameters suggests that TIR may serve as a multidimensional marker of metabolic health. Incorporating TIR into clinical practice may improve the assessment of glycemic status beyond conventional markers.
