Rationale: The use of immunonutrition is well established in the pre- and post-operative period. However, some studies show that this intervention can also be beneficial in systemic treatment, with a possible reduction in the severity of toxicities and with maintenance or recovery of nutritional status, reducing weight loss.
Methods: Phase 2, single-center, single-arm prospective study, with comparison with literature data. Patients used the immunomodulatory supplement Impact throughout the treatment period, 2 units/day. Nutritional assessments included PG-SGA and sit-to-stand test. Toxicities were monitored according to patient reports and medical records.
Results: To date, 45 patients have agreed to participate in the study, 24 remained in follow-up until the second assessment (mid-treatment), and 15 completed the study. Of the patients who completed the study, 53.3% were men with a mean age of 54 years. The mean weight loss was 3.8 kg. According to PG-SGA, at the beginning of treatment, 66.7% of the sample had some degree of nutrition, and at the end of treatment, 100% had this condition.
Conclusion: This analysis presents preliminary descriptive results from an ongoing intervention study.
