Rationale: Nutrition disturbs elderly people is frequent. This study assessed the link between nutritional status and living conditions.

Methods: Observational study with people 60 years or older, residing in Long-Term Care Institutions for the Elderly in Brazil. Weight, height, Body Mass Index - BMI1-4 and Mini Nutritional Status Assessment - MNA were collected from medical records. Quantitative variables were described by mean and standard deviation, categorical by frequencies. ANOVA and Tukey compared means, chi-squared or Fisher's tests examined proportions. The significance level was 5% (p≤0.05).

Results: Sample of 178 elderly individuals, mean age 86 years, 75.8% female. Average weight 62.8 kg, height 1.56 m and BMI 26.0 kg/m². By BMI, 43.3% were eutrophic, 10.1% overweight. By MNA, 15.7% were normal and 55.6% at risk of malnutrition. BMI showed underweight (26.4%) linked to male, Alzheimer's, and feeding tube. Obesity (20.2%) was linked to female, hypertension, oral feeding, and motor physiotherapy. MNA found malnutrition (28.7%) associated with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, feeding tube, supplements, diapers, and bedridden

Conclusion: Our results highlight critical factors for elderly nutrition care.
