Rationale: Gastric cancer is common, and early diagnosis along with accurate prognosis assessment is crucial for patients' survival. Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is related to various liver diseases, and its potential link with gastric cancer has drawn attention. However, the value of HBV - related markers in early screening and prognosis evaluation of gastric cancer remains unclear.

Methods: From February 2021 to June 2022, enzyme - linked immunosorbent assay was used to detect HBV - related markers like hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) in 50 early - stage gastric cancer patients and 60 gastric ulcer patients. Diagnostic value was analyzed by sensitivity, etc.

Results: Serum HBsAg and HBeAg levels in early - stage gastric cancer patients were significantly higher than those in gastric ulcer patients (P <0.05). The area under the combined ROC curve of HBsAg and HBeAg was 0.856, with higher diagnostic accuracy than single - marker detection, and the difference was statistically significant (Z = 2.376, P <0.05). In early - stage gastric cancer patients, those with positive HBV markers had smaller tumor diameters and lower lymph node metastasis rates.

Conclusion: HBV - related markers, especially HBsAg and HBeAg, can suggest early - stage gastric cancer and are valuable for prognosis evaluation, providing new references for early diagnosis and prevention/treatment strategies of gastric cancer.
