Rationale: Assessment of the nutritional status dynamics pediatric patients during intensive oncological treatment.

Methods: The nutritional status of pediatric patients diagnosed between2021and2023at the Dept.of Pediatrics,Hematology and Oncology,University Hospital No.1 in Bydgoszcz were analyzed and compared. This is a retrospective analysis of medical records of138patients(age:8.8years,range:11days–18yrs,49,3%♀,50,7%♂).Weight and height were taken:at the beginning of diagnosis(T.I),during treatment(T1–T3,every8–12wks),at post-treatment(T.II).Weight/height changes in percentile range(p.r.)were evaluated.Diagnoses:ALL-63,HL-16,AML-12,Wilms tumors(T.)-9,PNS T.-5,adrenal tumors-4,ovarian T.-4,sarcoma-5,liver/biliary T.-3,NHL-3,bone T.-4,CNS-3,melanoma-2,T/NK lymphoma-1,testis T.-1,endocrine T.-1,brain T.-1,salivary gland T.-1.The average duration of intensive therapy was7.4months(rage:1–32mos).Chemotherapy was administered to131patients,radiotherapy-13,surgical intervention-40 and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation-12.Mortality during the study period:4(2.9%).Throughout the entire treatment period, intensive dietary supervision and nutritional counseling were provided.During this time, parenteral nutrition was administered to64patients(46%)and enteral nutrition to6patients(4.3%).

Results: Weight(T.I,n=138):body weight p.r. distribution:<3c:3.6%,3–10c:7.2%,10–25c:8%,25–50c:26.1%,50–75c:21%,75–90c:12.3%,90-97c:13%,>97c:8.8%.Height(T.I.,n=138):Height p.r. distribution:<3c:2.9%,3-10c:4.3%,10-25c:9.4%,25–50c:15.2%,50–75c:20.3%,75–90c:17.4%,90–97c:14.5%,>97c:16%.The table presents changes in height and weight overall and across specific percentile range.
