Rationale: Patients being monitored for cancer-related conditions have persistent fears even after treatment, particularly regarding their diet.
This leads many of them to follow a restrictive diet and to ask questions during their post-treatment check-up regarding their diet.
Methods: This study describes the fears and questions that patients raise regarding diet in order to develop dietary advice that addresses patients' concerns.
This is a prospective study carried out over a period of one month with 100 patients under post-therapeutic monitoring in the radiotherapy department of the National Institute of Oncology.
Results: Among the 100 patients, 88 asked questions about their diet; in particular.60% of them followed a restrictive diet without sugar or dairy products and with restriction of animal protein sources.
The rest of the patients ate without restriction but remained curious about the right diet to follow.
Dietary advice was given to these patients to follow a balanced diet without restriction while promoting a diet rich in fiber, fruits and vegetables, a moderate consumption of calcium through dairy products have a protective role.
It is necessary to avoid alcohol, minimize the consumption of processed foods, excess salt, excessive consumption of red meat, and saturated fats.
Not forgetting regular physical activity in moderation to control weight while preserving muscle mass.
Because obesity is a factor that promotes the development of certain cancers.1
Conclusion: To conclude, patients with cancer should follow a balanced diet without restriction, with a practice of regular and moderate physical activity to control weight and avoid obesity.
